Sky Metropolis: Mgabrys's Zeppelin City Takes Home This Week's Staff Choice Award

Our server is primarily a fun server, so we don't often get huge, epic builds of amazingness. And yet that's exactly what we've got with Mgabrys's build, the Portland. Or, more specifically, Zeppelin City OR-2019 "Portland".

Mgabrys has created an amazing fusion of both history and fantasy by combining a real zeppelin (the D-LZ130) with an amazing city. Real zeppelins are, of course, filled with gas (either helium or hydrogen), but since this is Minecraft, Mgabrys filled the blimp with houses, crops, fountains, and more.

Unfortunately, his build is so big that no single picture can capture the entirety of it. Instead, here's a great video he made of it:

I recommend watching the video—it's pretty impressive—but if you'd rather just skim, here are some shots of the outside. Note the creeper faces on the fins, and the observation deck below.

It's huge, and was all built entirely by hand—no mods whatsoever.

However, what's really impressive is the inside. Check out this main chamber, which features fountains, living quarters, food, and more. Look at how massive this area is, and look at how ingeniously he used ice blocks to diffuse the glowstone lighting.

Each of those apartments (there are nearly 20 of them) is decorated and designed especially to fit its space. The cabins range from diamond-quality to coal-quality, and vary in size accordingly. They're all fully-furnished, featuring kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and more.

If you get tired of your luxurious stateroom aboard the Portland, you can always take a stroll over to the ballroom.

As if it's not just pretty all on its own, the ship features fully-functioning lighting.

The other end of the ship is very pretty as well, with a wall garden, and fountain.

Oh, and what's this here?! I won't give away how I found it, but I love secret little hidden things!

Overall, this is one of my favorite builds on our server. Not only is it intricately detailed, but it's just beautifully designed on all levels. The best part is that there are at least two more in the works! Each one will be themed and designed differently, but will be housed in another massive zeppelin shell.

Well done, Mgabrys. You've made an absolutely amazing build, and well deserve your rank and mob disguise.

For everyone else who has built something they're proud of on our server, let us know by posting it on our Inspiration board, and you'll have a chance at winning a Staff Choice Award!
