Welcome to Minecraft World! Check out our tutorials, post to the community corkboard, and come play on our free server!

Minecraft World's Weekly Server Challenge: Pixel Art

Things really came to life on the server this past week thanks to the last challenge, with everyone working on their own version of a living Minecraft creature! It was certainly a nice change of pace from the previous week's futuristic challenge. From dragons to hydras to lounging puppy dogs, all of our bases were certainly covered.

Weekly Challenge: Week 7

So, without further ado, this week's challenge is... Underground Cities!

What do you imagine living in an underground city would be like? Would it be inhabited or deserted? Why would the builders have decided to build underground, and are/were they hiding from something or someone?

This week's challenge might sound... challenging, but keep in mind that you can work with others! If you prefer to go solo, that's okay, too—you don't need to make a gigantic city. We want your underground city to tell a story, whether it's told with signs or simply by the architecture. That's completely up to you.

If you haven't seen the large underground city on the server that Thfrbddn1 made a while ago, you can see a quick preview of that here. You never know... it might give you some inspiration!

Use /warp challenge5 to be taken to the designated area for this week's challenge build.

What Are Weekly Challenges For?

Though these Weekly Challenges are not required, they were created in order to help our builders on the server get out of any artistic blocks. We want these Weekly Challenges to inspire you to create something magnificent! We also want you to post your tips and tricks, as well as your build! You can do so by clicking HERE and posting to the community corkboard.

The idea behind the Weekly Challenge is to share your quick tips and tricks related to the topic at hand with the community. Every week is something different, so be sure to check the Blog every Monday!

Rules

  • Submissions should be created in the designated area in the server. Use /warp Challenge5 to be taken to the area.
  • Admins will extend the Stone border at /warp Challenge5 if you need more room.
  • If you build your creation outside of the Stone border, ask an Admin to copy/paste it into the appropriate area.
  • Be sure to put a sign in the front of your creation telling who helped you with the project, what it is, etc. The more information we have, the better!
  • In order for your entry to count, it MUST be something you created on the WonderHowTo server.
  • Do not claim a build as your own if you did not create it—we will know!
  • If you worked with someone on a project, please mention their name as well and what they contributed.
  • Post your tutorial, progress, creation and/or tips to the community corkboard in order to be considered for each week's contest.
  • You cannot submit the same creation more than once to the corkboard.
  • For all Weekly Challenges, you cannot use a previous entry you've already submitted in the past.
  • You CAN enter BOTH the Weekly Challenge and the Weekly Staff Choice Awards in the same week.
  • Winners will be announced next Monday at 12 PM PST (3 PM EST)!

Prizes

  • 1 Grand Prize winner - Contributor rank in game + MobDisguise: Creeper (/md creeper)!
  • Honorable Mentions - Contributor rank in game!

* Contributor rank in game allows you to change your gamemode (survival/creative), put yourself in godmode (/god), set 20 homes, claim 50 (16x16) plots and wear hats with /hat!

* Mob disguise allows you to turn into a mob in Minecraft. You will not see yourself as that specific mob, but everyone else will think you're actually a creeper!

Winners of Weekly Challenge: Week 6

GRAND PRIZE WINNERS:

Stevie55, Woodspeople, NEWDeStRoY1 & GoatSucker created a breathtakingly realistic fire-breathing dragon. The colors they chose are super unique and give this dragon the extra edge it needed to take home the crown! They really put their noggins together to create this.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Brickchiken and his mythical beast, the Hydra. The lack of color really gives this hydra an eerie, realistic feel to it. I love the use of cobblestone to give the added texture that replicates "scales." The added vines make it seem like this hydra just awoke from the bottom of the lake.

Chavez130 and his lazy green monster of unknown origin. Chavez130 is a newcomer to the server, and he certainly didn't waste anytime when it came to this creature challenge! This awesome beast is just hanging back and keeping an eye on things around the challenge area.

Questions for the Audience:

  • Will you be participating in this week's challenge?
  • Do you have any ideas yet as to what you will be creating?
  • Are you looking for a few more helping hands for a project that seems like it might be too much to handle?
  • Do you have a suggestion for next week's challenge?

Good luck and have fun! Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Don't forget, use - /warp Challenge5 to be taken to the designated area to create your weekly challenge build!

If it's allowed, I would like to submit the underground city I already built (warp woodcity) for the contest. I just finished it a few weeks ago, so it's not all that old. It already has a corkboard post and signs that show who helped with it. If submitting anything not built this week is against the rules, I think I'll just sit this one out and wait for the next challenge I haven't done yet! I like the challenges because they get us all thinking together and comparing creations, which makes it more interesting than building whatever we think of in isolation. I would like to suggest (while I'm talking) a challenge ideas thread on the forum, because I think we all have lots of good ideas, and maybe even some voting... I'll stop...

And just a note if someone rips off the story of bioshock or something similar, I'm a call plagarism on that.
